DAMMIT JIM I'M A WRITER NOT A PROMOTER!
Workshop for writers, authors, memoirists and self-publishers;
Learn how to sell and share your art, without selling out.

with Author Coach Matthew Ashdown of Author Quest Coaching.

At this full-day in-depth workshop you will have the opportunity to learn how the successful authors are sharing their work with the world and creating income for themselves while remaining true to who they are.

See Matthew's new video for authors here

Special Guests Grant McKenzie, rising-in-the-charts suspense novelist (grantmckanzie.net) and Monday Magazine editor; and Rebecca Kennel,
self-published author of Victoria Bench by Bench (benchbybench.com)

Workshop curriculum:

  • Success: Getting clear on what being successful means to you.
  • Trust: Selling your art without selling out.
  • Publishing Plan of Action: choosing a path that works for you.
  • Control: identifying what you have control over, and what you don't.
  • Sales fails: what are the common reasons why authors don't make sales.
  • Goals: the difference between performance and outcome related goals.
  • Blocks: when you know what you should be doing, but aren't, and what to do about it.
  • Rejection: Develop immunity and feel good promoting yourself.
  • Tips, tools and techniques to stay on track with your plans and vision.
  • The workshop will also be an opportunity to network with other writers (be sure to bring your book if you have one) and learn about local self-publishing resources (an information table will be available).

"Regardless of whether you are persuading people of the power of your book or information, or whether you are persuading someone to go out on a date with you, you are selling yourself. Selling has become what people resist the most, but whether you go through traditional publishing channels or self-publishing, you have to sell yourself. The trick is becoming the kind of person that people trust and want to buy from, versus the person that people cross the street to avoid."   - Matthew Ashdown

Matthew Ashdown has worked with authors for the last 5 years and has observed the traits of those who have succeeded compared to those who have fallen from the path and will share his findings with all authors who are committed to success with their book, however that may look.

Resistance to selling is something Matthew Ashdown understands well as he had to overcome this for himself in the past. Through his own work, and through his experience helping other authors, he is able to share knowledge, tips and techniques, and ask the right questions to help authors overcome their own fears, find their authentic voice and become people that others will buy from. He is currently writing his own novel and is also a life and fitness coach.
